Azadeh Elmizadeh
Born in 1987
Lives and works in Toronto, Canada
Azadeh Elmizadeh captures impressions of her subjects as if by looking through a kaleidoscope. Her canvases depict silken scenes from a softer life, the lens through which to view slightly out of focus – the outlines of her figures are just perceptible behind the mirage. Her works contain a series of iridescent fogs which shroud scenes not yet revealed, but always implied. Elmizadeh earned her first BFA in 2010 from the University of Tehran, her second in 2016 from OCAD University, and her MFA in 2020 from the University of Guelph. Her recent exhibitions include Sister Seeds (Franz Kaka, 2022, Toronto, CA); Soft Smoke (with Ella Gonzales, Southern Alberta Art Gallery, 2022, Lethbridge, CA); and Subtle Bodies (Franz Kaka, 2020, Toronto, CA).
