Enzo Iwase is a 2021 graduate of the Cooper Union in New York City. Iwase has participated in group shows in New York and Providence, and had a recent solo exhibition at the Cooper Union. Iwase creates delicately twisting drawings, devoid of contextual grounding and explicit subject matter, though the imagery feels unified in its suggestively organic inspiration. Working at the knife edge between abstraction and representation, Iwase uses the pull of geometric currents to lead viewers spiraling through these works until suddenly they are struck by an unexpected moment of recognition, the fleeting suggestion of familiar forms interspersed throughout hypnotic bands of line and color.
