Jacques Flèchemuller
Born 1945 in Monaco
Lives and works in Brooklyn, New York, and Ardeche, France
Born in Monaco in 1945, Jacques Flechemuller today splits his time between Ardeche and Brooklyn. He has exhibited extensively throughout the United States and Europe, and had a recent solo show in Japan. Jacques has work in notable public collections including the Paris Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. Known best for a subversive sort of figure painting, he uses humor and caricature to provoke an emotional and intellectual response from the viewer. Many of his works feature a mixture of styles, with some portions demonstrating his clear mastery of representational painting techniques, while others deliberately flatten, warp, and exaggerate in order to emphasize the discord present in his otherwise idyllic or domestic scenes.
