Born in 1989, Amsterdam based artist Mikołaj Sobczak is a 2016 graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts Warsaw, and currently is a resident artist at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in the Netherlands. A multidisciplinary artist known for work in video, painting, ceramics, and performance pieces, he has exhibited widely through Europe. Much of his recent work has dealt with issue of cultural memory and repression, bringing to the forefront historically marginalized groups. By appropriating and subverting recognizable motifs, Sobczak uses his art to address social and political issues through the lens of historical, folkloric, and pop culture imagery. Sobczak frequently collaborates with Nicholas Grafia.
