"Born in Buenos Aires in 1986, Santiago Licata is an Argentine artist who has recently shown at numerous galleries throughout the Americas. Known for high contrast, sparsely colored works on paper, Licata uses graphite to create luminous works of art. Many of his drawings stand out for his characteristic talent for creating works that appear at once velvet-soft and sharply geometric, the presence of each extreme enhancing the other. Some other works are darker, featuring densely packed and detailed images one on top of another, such that viewed at a distance they are collages of abstract form. In these works bright spots pierce through the darkness, emphasizing the weight of the emptiness that surrounds them.
