Born in 1989 in Zeitz, Sarah Fripon today lives and works in Vienna. In 2015 Fripon earned her BFA in fashion design at the University of Art and Design Linz and the Fashion Institute of Vienna, and in 2021 earned her MA from the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. She has widely exhibited her art in group and solo exhibitions and performances throughout Austria and Germany, and has work held in the collections of the Vienna Museum, the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, and the Baden State Museum. Fripon's art draws on everyday life to document her thoughts and experience of the world around her. Fripon creates a constant record through cellphone photography; as a guest in other people´s houses, on city walks, in shops, in images pulled from old mail order catalogs of her childhood or stock photos and advertising layouts. She compiles an expansive archive from which to paint, compositions consisting of association chains between visual motifs. In this catalogue of images are collected motives that have the potential to describe the here and now – evoke thoughts, imply answers or reflect a certain mood present in society. And there are others which are just funny, nostalgic or frivolous. Out of this mass of pictures she chooses some, collages, modifies, and edits them, contemplating themes that help her to better understand her surroundings.
